Iran Denies Involvement in Alleged Israeli Embassy Attack Plot

In a statement shared on X (formerly Twitter) on Thursday, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi firmly denied Tehran’s involvement in an alleged plot targeting the Israeli embassy in London. Araghchi emphasized that Iran had not received any formal communication on the matter through appropriate diplomatic channels.

“Iran is prepared to cooperate to clarify the facts and reiterates that UK authorities must ensure due process for our citizens,” the minister wrote.

This statement comes in response to recent arrests made by the United Kingdom under national security legislation. Authorities confirmed that eight individuals—seven of whom are Iranian nationals—were taken into custody during two separate operations linked to potential threats to national security.

According to London’s Metropolitan Police, five of the men were detained on suspicion of preparing a terrorist act. The remaining three were apprehended under the UK’s National Security Act 2023, a law aimed at countering threats from hostile states.

The arrests were part of a “pre-planned” counterterrorism investigation concerning a possible scheme to target specific locations. Police have confirmed that the site allegedly at risk has been notified and is receiving appropriate support.

In a separate operation led by the Metropolitan Police, three additional Iranian nationals—aged 39, 44, and 55—were arrested at various locations in north-west and west London. All remain in custody as investigations and property searches continue.

Responding to media reports suggesting Iranian involvement in the alleged plot, Araghchi called on the UK government to engage with Tehran to clarify the truth behind these claims. He also cautioned against attempts by third parties to instigate diplomatic crises through misinformation.

“The timing and absence of formal dialogue raise serious concerns,” Araghchi stated.

In an earlier post this week, Araghchi expressed concern over the treatment of the Iranian citizens detained in the UK, reiterating Iran’s willingness to assist with a thorough and impartial investigation.

“I am troubled by reports of Iranian nationals being detained by UK security services,” he said, underscoring Tehran’s expectation that their legal rights will be upheld.
