A federal judge has ruled that right-wing activist and Trump ally Laura Loomer must continue making court-ordered payments to the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), rejecting her latest attempt to halt the settlement agreement.
Loomer, who has repeatedly described herself as a “proud Islamophobe,” has been making monthly payments to CAIR since 2023. These payments stem from a failed lawsuit she filed against the Muslim civil rights organization, which resulted in a substantial financial judgment against her.
Background of the Legal Dispute
The case traces back to 2022, when the U.S. Court of Appeals upheld a $125,000 judgment against Loomer. The ruling followed her unsuccessful claim that CAIR had pressured the social media platform X—then known as Twitter—into restricting her account.

To resolve the matter, both parties reached a settlement in 2023 that reduced the amount Loomer was required to pay to $73,500, structured in monthly installments rather than a lump sum.
Attempt to Stop Payments Fails
In late 2025, Loomer petitioned the court to suspend the payments after Florida Governor Ron DeSantis publicly labeled CAIR a “foreign terrorist organization.” Loomer argued that the designation justified ending the settlement obligations.
On Monday, the court dismissed her request, ruling that the settlement agreement remains legally binding regardless of political declarations made after the fact.
CAIR Responds to the Ruling
CAIR acknowledged the decision in a public statement, noting that Loomer’s payments have continued for more than two years as a result of her own failed legal action.
The organization stated that the funds are being used to support civil liberties work, including legal advocacy on behalf of American Muslims and broader free-speech protections.
CAIR Litigation Director Lena Masri welcomed the ruling, emphasizing that the payments will continue to assist in providing legal representation and advancing constitutional rights.
Loomer’s Public Record
Loomer has a long history of inflammatory remarks targeting Muslims and Islam, previously referring to Muslims using derogatory language and labeling Islam in extremist terms. Despite widespread criticism, she has remained a prominent figure in right-wing political circles and has reportedly influenced staffing decisions across several federal agencies during the Trump era.
The court’s decision ensures that the financial settlement will proceed as agreed, reinforcing the enforceability of civil judgments even amid shifting political narratives.
