Muslim Scholars And The Chemistry


The Muslim period was from 600 to 1600 A.D within the history of chemistry which is know as the time of alchemist. from the middle ages, chemistry was presented with a spurt at work. During the initial centuries of Hijra period, the Muslim Scientist made abundant contribution towards the various branches of science, specially within the field of chemistry and introduced scientific methods and experimantations. the present day scientific knowledge will be based upon the contributions these Muslim scholars.

The alchemists developed and used many laboratory equipment for example funnels, breakers, crucibles for melting and blending, answer for distillation, balances for weighing, etc. They discovered various acids, alcohols and medicines.

Jabir Ibne-Haiyan (721-803 A.D), often called the father of alchemy, invented experimental means of the preparation of hydrochloric acid, white lead, and nitric acid. moreover, He developed means of the extraction of metals from other ores and dying cloths.

Al-Razi (862-930 A.D) would have been a physician, alchemist along with a philosopher. He was and expert surgeon called the first to utilize opium for an anesthesia. He divided the substances in living and non-living origins, that was later adopted by Berzellius, in 1806 to classify chemical compound judging by their orgins as organic and inorganic compounds Al-Razi prepared ethyl alcohol with the fermentation process.

Al-Beruni (973-1048 A.D) contributed a good deal in physics, metaphysics, mathematics, geography and history. within the field of chemistry, he determined the densities of various substances.

Ibne-Sina (980-1037 A.D) was famous for his contribution inside the field of medicines, philosophy, medicinal chemistry, mathematics and astronomy.

These Muslims alchemists were interested more locating a way to prolong life as well as convert baser metals like lead, copper straight into gold. Although their efforts were futile however their researches led towards the discoveries of several substances and laid the inspiration of chemistry. By the late sixteenth like sulpheric acid, nitric acid, hydrochloric acid, silver nitrate, etc put together. Chemist of this period, however, devoted their energies mainly with the production of drugs for your use of medicines.
