World renowned Muslim chest consultant Professor Mohammed Munavvar joined 70 colleagues at Preston Hospital in one day fast to raise funds for the Rosemere Cancer Foundation.
âAbout three years ago, some of Professor Munavvarâs colleagues asked if he would mind if they joined him fasting for a day during Ramadan just to see what it was like and he suggested they support Rosemere Cancer Foundation in the process,â Rosemere Cancer Foundationâs Chief Officer Dan Hill told Asian Image.

âMore of his colleagues wanted to become involved and so last year, Professor Munavvar decided to turn the fast into a fundraising event for Rosemere Cancer Foundation, which has funded diagnostic equipment for him.
âThis yearâs event was a grand success and I can see it getting bigger and bigger in the years to come.â
Along with Hill, those who took part in the fast were Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trustâs Chief Medical Director Dr Gerry Skailes and its Chief Nursing Officer Sarah Cullen and its two imams Khalid Ibrahim and Naeem Toorawa.
Completing the fast, Professor Munavvar invited all participants to the dining area within the Royal Preston Hospitalâs Education Centre 1.
There he helped to serve fresh food, along with his colleagues and the hospitalâs Imams.
Professor Munavvar is chair of the European Respiratory Societyâs Interventional Pulmonology Group. He is also the immediate past president of the European Association of Bronchology and Interventional Pulmonology and a former president of the British Thoracic Society.
