Zamfara First Lady Launches Ramadan Support for 16,000 Vulnerable Residents

The First Lady of Zamfara State, Hajiya Huriyya Dauda Lawal, has officially commenced the distribution of Ramadan welfare packages aimed at supporting vulnerable residents across the state.

The launch ceremony took place on Sunday at the Zakkat and Endowment Board headquarters in Gusau, where the First Lady disclosed that 16,000 carefully verified beneficiaries would receive assistance under the programme.

According to her, each beneficiary will be provided with a 25-kilogram bag of rice, a cash grant of ₦20,000, and clothing materials to ease the burden of the holy month of Ramadan.

Coverage Across 19 Emirate Councils

Hajiya Huriyya explained that the welfare outreach spans all 19 Emirate Councils in the state. The targeted beneficiaries include orphans, widows, and other vulnerable households identified through a screening process.

She emphasized that the initiative reflects the administration’s determination to prioritise the welfare of disadvantaged citizens, particularly during periods of economic hardship.

Commitment to Social Support

The First Lady reiterated that the government under Governor Dauda Lawal remains committed to strengthening social support systems. She referenced earlier interventions by the administration, including assistance for the marriage of female orphans and empowerment support for small-scale entrepreneurs.

She also commended the Zakkat and Endowment Board for its sustained efforts in delivering relief to less privileged communities across the state. Beneficiaries were encouraged to make responsible use of the items and funds provided to them.

Board Applauds Government’s Initiative

In his remarks, the Executive Secretary of the Board, Alhaji Habib Muhammad Balarabe, described the Ramadan distribution programme as a major step toward cushioning the effects of hardship on vulnerable groups.

He expressed appreciation to Governor Lawal for his continued backing of the Board’s activities and for maintaining a strong focus on policies that promote welfare and self-reliance among residents.

The Ramadan welfare distribution forms part of broader measures by the Zamfara State Government to alleviate poverty and enhance community resilience across the state.
