In a heart-wrenching incident that has shocked the nation, US President Joe Biden has unequivocally condemned the senseless killing of a six-year-old Muslim boy, describing it as a “horrific act of hate.” This devastating event unfolded on a fateful Saturday when the assailant, identified as the landlord, inflicted 26 stab wounds on the child, who later succumbed to his injuries at a local hospital. In the same attack, the young boy’s 32-year-old mother was also wounded, although she is expected to recover, according to a statement from the Will County sheriff’s office in Illinois.
The investigation revealed a chilling motive behind this gruesome act. Detectives determined that the victims were specifically targeted due to their Muslim identity, in a cruel response to the ongoing Middle Eastern conflict involving Hamas and Israel. This appalling crime took place approximately 40 miles (64 kilometers) west of Chicago.
In a statement issued late on Sunday, President Biden confirmed the woman’s relationship to the young victim, highlighting that their Palestinian Muslim family had sought refuge in America, like so many others, with the hope of living, learning, and praying in peace. He vehemently denounced the act of hatred that took the innocent child’s life, declaring it incompatible with America’s core values. President Biden called upon the nation to unite against Islamophobia and all forms of bigotry and hatred.
As the horrific details of the attack emerged, authorities revealed that the mother managed to call 911 while bravely defending herself against the assailant, identified as 71-year-old Joseph Czuba by the sheriff’s office. Inside the residence, deputies discovered two victims with multiple stab wounds to their chest, torso, and upper extremities, as stated by the sheriff’s office. The autopsy revealed a serrated military-style knife with a seven-inch blade lodged in the young boy’s abdomen.

When law enforcement arrived at the scene, they found Czuba sitting near the driveway with a laceration on his forehead. He was promptly transported to the hospital for medical treatment before being charged with murder, attempted murder, and two counts of hate crimes.
The chilling nature of the attack became more apparent when it was revealed that Czuba had knocked on the door, attempted to strangle the woman, and uttered hateful words, expressing a desire for the demise of Muslims. This harrowing account was conveyed through text messages sent by the woman from her hospital bed to the murdered boy’s father, as reported by Ahmed Rehab, the head of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) Chicago office.
