Kannur: Police in Pazhayangadi have registered a case against Afra Shihab along with 29 other identified members of the Girls Islamic Organisation (GIO) for conducting a pro-Palestine rally without prior approval at the ecologically sensitive Madayi Para.
According to the First Information Report (FIR), the rally took place on Friday evening, coinciding with Thiruvonam. Participants reportedly carried flags and banners, with police alleging that the demonstration was held in a manner that could potentially foster discord between communities.

The activists have been booked under sections 189(2), 191(2), 192, and 190 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which deal with unlawful assembly, rioting, and instigating individuals to join rioters. Authorities stated that nearly 30 activists gathered at Madayi Para without the required permission, raising concerns about communal harmony in the region.
Police also confirmed that the case was registered suo motu following complaints from credible sources, who alleged that the slogans raised during the rally were aimed at creating division in society.
