Mihrimah Mosque (Asian side)

The Mihrimah Sultan Mosque on the Asian side of Istanbul is the most dominant mosque in the Üsküdar region. It was the first of two mosques commissioned by Princess Mihrima, the beloved daughter of Suleyman the Magnificent. The architect was the famous Sinan.

The mosque is located on a high platform opposite the ferry terminal, opposite the huge covered veranda. It was built in the 1540s.

This is the only Ottoman mosque with three half-domes (and not two or four), which is the result of the requirements of its problem area to the hillside.

It also has an unusual double portico, the first one built by Sinan in the city. Ablution fountain at the entrance has a unique bird cage design.

The mosque is usually open, and its interior deserves special attention due to its particularly bright and spacious interior, which is the result of the abundant use of arch windows in the shape of an arch, especially suitable, since Mihrima means Sun and Moon. in Persian
