In a significant step to enhance the convenience of Hajj pilgrims, Saudi Arabia has introduced a remote eSIM activation service for international visitors. This innovation allows pilgrims to activate their digital SIM cards via mobile service provider applications without needing to visit physical stores or wait until they reach their accommodation.
This streamlined service is the result of a collaborative effort between the Communications, Space and Technology Commission (CST), the Ministry of Interior, and licensed telecommunications providers in the Kingdom. It utilizes biometric verification through the Absher platform, enabling pilgrims to complete the activation process with ease and security.

The primary goal of this initiative is to provide seamless digital connectivity from the moment pilgrims arrive in Saudi Arabia, particularly during the high-traffic Hajj and Umrah seasons. With this update, international travelers can remain connected with loved ones and access vital information immediately upon landing.
As of this week, nearly 666,000 pilgrims from around the world have already arrived in Saudi Arabia to perform Hajj, which is expected to reach its peak in the coming days. According to the Ministry of Hajj, 665,722 international pilgrims arrived by Tuesday alone, highlighting the growing influx of worshippers.
Authorities report that the reception and management of incoming pilgrims have been proceeding efficiently, thanks to the coordinated efforts of all relevant agencies. Last year, approximately 1.8 million pilgrims, both domestic and international, fulfilled their religious obligations during Hajj.
The introduction of remote eSIM activation is part of Saudi Arabia’s broader strategy to enhance the Hajj experience through smart technology and digital transformation, ensuring smooth and efficient services for all pilgrims.
