In a bid to support the less privileged during the holy month of Ramadan, the Aliko Dangote Foundation has donated 25,000 bags of rice to residents of Bauchi State. The initiative aims to provide relief and ease economic hardship for many during the fasting period.
During the official distribution in Bauchi on Tuesday, the Dangote Foundation’s representative, Ahmed Hashim, highlighted the significance of the donation. He explained that the 10-kilogram bags of rice would be shared among both privileged and underprivileged individuals across the state, ensuring a widespread impact.
“This initiative is part of our commitment to supporting communities across Nigeria, particularly during Ramadan. It is our way of giving back and ensuring that both the less privileged and some members of society receive essential food items,” Hashim stated.
He further revealed that this marks the second consecutive year of the program, emphasizing the foundation’s dedication to providing food assistance. “Last year, every local government area in Nigeria, through their respective state governments, received one million 10kg bags of rice. This year, we are continuing the tradition,” he added.

Hashim noted that Bauchi was among the first states to respond when letters were sent out from Abuja to respective liaison offices regarding the distribution process.
Beyond food aid, Hashim highlighted the foundation’s contributions in various sectors, including healthcare and education. “We have been actively involved in providing medical aid, constructing hostels in universities, and making significant contributions, such as our efforts during the COVID-19 pandemic,” he noted.
Speaking on behalf of the Bauchi State Government, the Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management, Hajara Wanka, expressed gratitude for the generous support. She detailed the distribution plan, stating, “Each of the 20 Local Government Areas will receive 500 bags, while 10,000 bags will be allocated to mosques and churches to support both Muslim and Christian communities observing their respective fasts. Additionally, 5,000 bags will be designated for key stakeholders across the state.”
The donation from the Dangote Foundation comes at a crucial time, offering much-needed relief to many households and reinforcing the foundation’s ongoing commitment to humanitarian efforts in Nigeria.
