Istanbul, Türkiye – Afghanistan’s Acting Foreign Minister, Mawlavi Amir Khan Muttaqi, held a bilateral meeting with Türkiye’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hakan Fidan, on the sidelines of the 51st session of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Council of Foreign Ministers in Istanbul.
The meeting, held on Monday, centered on advancing mutual cooperation and strengthening diplomatic relations between the two nations, according to a statement from Afghanistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
During the discussion, Muttaqi highlighted Türkiye’s “special status” in Afghanistan’s foreign policy framework and expressed the Islamic Emirate’s commitment to expanding ties with Ankara across key sectors, including diplomacy, trade, and cultural exchange.

On his part, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan reaffirmed Ankara’s dedication to fostering closer engagement with Kabul, noting that Afghanistan remains a significant partner for Türkiye in the broader Islamic world. Fidan emphasized the importance of broadening cooperation, particularly in areas of mutual interest.
The Istanbul dialogue reflects both nations’ efforts to rekindle and enhance longstanding ties at a pivotal time in regional diplomacy.
Separately, on Sunday, Muttaqi also met with Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Mohammad Ishaq Dar. Their discussions focused on promoting bilateral trade and improving transit cooperation between Kabul and Islamabad.
The high-level meetings underscore the Islamic Emirate’s ongoing diplomatic outreach aimed at regional integration and economic revival amid evolving geopolitical landscapes.
