How to Help Possessed Person in Islam

All praise to Allah, the Lord the of the Worlds. Human is not the only one created and lived in the universe. Allah SWT also created Jinn, Shaytaan, and Angel alongside with human. Jinn and Shaytaan had sworn to Prophet Adam that they will be tempting all the Adam’s children to keep them away from Allah.

There is also occasion where Jinn and Shaytaan are attaching themselves to human’s body and possessed them. A possessed person will show unusual signs, slowly becoming someone that is not them. Here are the ways how tol help possessed person in Islam:

1. Reciting the Verse from Quran

Allah SWT is the only one who owned anything and to Him all shall return. Putting our belief to Allah help to cure the possessed soul. The thing that feared by Jinn and Shaytaan is a voice that reciting Quran. The most effective Surah to get rid of Jinn and Shaytaan are Al Falaq and An Naas, which the Prophet himself used. Along with Al Ikhlaas and the opening of the Quran, Al Fatihah.

Seven lotus tree leaves can be used to cure black magic. Crushed the leaves and mix it in a water that is sufficient for bath. Then recited the following verses from Quran: Al Kursy, Al Kafiroon, the last three Surah in Quran. As well as Quran verses which mention about magic: Al Baqarah (102), Al A’raaf (117-119), Yunus (79-82), and Taha (65-69). Drink some of the water and use the rest for bath.

3. Asking Allah for a Help

Allah SWT is the final cure for the possessed soul, ask to Him and His help will come.

“Is not He (better than your gods) Who responds to the distressed one, when he calls on Him, and Who removes the evil, and makes you inheritors of the earth, generations after generations? Is there any ilaah (god) with Allaah? Little is that you remember!” – An Naml (62)

4. Repent for the Sins

To be freed from the attachment of Jinn and Shaytaan, the person should repent from the sins. There might be sins that he committed, to resulted in such situation. Sincerely repent from it and ask the forgiveness from Allah. This helps the possessed person closer to Allah and get rid of the evil spirit.

5. Performing Daily Prayers Diligently

When a person is possessed by an evil spirit, he has to work it himself to get rid of the evil spirit. Maintain the daily prayers five times everyday. Those evil spirits dislike anyone who is close to Allah SWT and doing religious activities. Prayers is actually what Shaytaan fears the most, as it will gone into hiding whenever the Adhaan (call for prayers) is heard.

6. Persevere the Dhikr

A possessed person should be holding on to Dhikr. In everything he does: eating, drinking, sleep, he has to say a lot of Dhikr. The best Dhikr comes from Quran, thus he should recite the following: Al Fatihah, Al Baqarahm and Aayat Al Kursiy. The more the possessed person do Dhikr, it weakened the Shaytaan attachment.

7. Surrounds the Patient with Good People

Shaytaan will not come near to a place which filled with people who are devoted to Allah. Move a possessed person to a better environment and surround him with good people who bring him closer to Allah. As Shaytaan dislikes to come near, it will be easy to get rid of it attachment.

8. Performing the Ruqya (Exorcism)

Ruqya is Islamic version of Exorcism, a ritual performed with purpose to get rid any evil beings that possessed human. The ritual is surely performed in Sharia way, using verses from Quran with no talisman or amulets involved. Only expert in this field could perform Ruqyah.

Requirement When Doing Ruqyah

Ruqyah should be prepared in certain conditions, and here are some of the things required to be done before doing Ruqyah:

1. Preparing the Place

Before the Ruqyah is performed, remove all picture from the place of treatment, because the Angels would not enter a place with pictures in it. Narrated Abu Talha: I heard Allah’s Apostle saying

;“Angel (of Mercy) do not enter a house wherein there is a dog or a picture of a living creature (a human being or an animal).” – Bukhari

Prepare the surrounding condition perfectly according to Sharia. Don’t turn on any music at the place and devoid any wrong acts. Such as men who are wearing gold, women who are not wearing their hijab, or anyone smoking. Make sure the room is clean then recite Adhaan loudly, to get rid any of the evil spirit present at the place.

3. Talking with the Patient and Families

As a preparation for the Ruqyah, give the patient and the families a lecture about Aqeedah to cleanse their heart for attachment of anything other than Allah. Also ask them things relevant with the patient’s condition. The purpose of the talk is to find out whether Sihr (magic) has affected the patient or not. This will help the treatment a lot.

4. Taking Out Unlawful Thing

The next step after talking with the patient and the family is put into act taking out the talisman from the patient. It could also formed in unknown amulets, burn it into ashes. After that, take Wudu’ or Ghusl (bath), as well as the patient and everyone present at the moment.

5. Treatment for a Female Patients

Treatment for a female patients is different than the male ones. A woman should cover herself and not allowed to use any perfume during the treatment. She has to cover perfectly, from her hair to body, and fastened them so that her body would not be uncovered. Also, treat a woman when one of the Maharim is present.

So those are the ways how to help a possesses person in Islam. Jinn and Shaytaan continue to lure us to a bad path and separate us from the Almighty Allah. To avoid those evil being, we should put our trust only to Allah SWT, the only God we know, the owner of Jannah and Hell.
