Saudi Arabia to Reopen Umrah Visas from June 10

Saudi Arabia has officially announced the resumption of Umrah visa issuance beginning Tuesday, June 10, signaling the start of the new Umrah season just days after concluding a highly organized and safe Hajj pilgrimage.

According to a statement released by the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah, the first group of foreign Umrah pilgrims is expected to arrive in the holy cities of Mecca and Medina on Wednesday, June 11.

The ministry confirmed that the new visa issuance will begin on 14 Dhul Hijjah 1446, in line with the Hijri calendar. Travel agencies and licensed Umrah service providers had been previously instructed to complete all contractual obligations and arrangements by May 27 (29 Dhul Qadah 1446) to ensure a smooth transition into the new pilgrimage season.

This announcement follows the successful conclusion of the 2025 Hajj season, which witnessed the participation of more than 1.6 million pilgrims from across the globe. Saudi authorities were lauded internationally for their meticulous planning, crowd control, and adherence to health and safety standards throughout the Hajj period.

Year-Round Umrah, Extended Into 2026

Unlike Hajj, which occurs annually during specific days of Dhul Hijjah, Umrah is open year-round. The current Umrah season is set to continue into 1447 Hijri (2026), providing Muslims worldwide with extended opportunities to fulfill this spiritual journey.

Further announcements are expected from the ministry in the coming months, including updates on pilgrim quotas, health protocols, and travel guidelines.

Temporary Visa Suspension Was Strategic

Traditionally, Saudi Arabia suspends Umrah visas in the lead-up to Hajj. This temporary pause allows the Kingdom to shift its full logistical, healthcare, and security resources to efficiently handle the significantly higher number of Hajj pilgrims arriving in a condensed timeframe.

The strategic planning is part of ongoing efforts by the Saudi government to improve pilgrim experiences and ensure the safety and well-being of all visitors to the holy sites.
