Now I am a firm believer of dua and the power that it withholds, and how it can really transform our lives. Now the people who know me well, know that they will find dua in my speech via text, WhatsApp or messages over Instagram, and even in person. You know…..dua is amazing, because it is you calling out to Allah swt and having a conversation with him; you are asking the Almighty for whatever your heart desires. Which is why I make dua for literally everything in life.

So where am I going with this?

During the month of Ramadan, we should be increasing the amount of dua we make because

An-Nu’man bin Bashir (RA) reported: The Prophet (peace be upon him) said,“Dua (supplication) is worship.”[Abu Dawud]

SubhanAllah! How amazing is this?! You don’t need wudhu or have to pray or have to go anywhere, but you can just call out to Allah and there is reward?! That is a form of worship?! So how do you get your duas answered?

1. Have faith & learn His names

Based on the etiquettes of dua we need to first have faith that Allah swt will answer them, but also we need to praise Allah in the most beautiful way. The way in which we can do this is by calling out to Allah swt by his most beautiful names. For instance, if I want to make a dua for more wealth, then I would say Ya Razzaq (the provider) Ya Kareem (the most generous) please grant me more wealth so that I can buy a house/so that I can buy a car. Please ensure my money is halal.

If I want to make a dua for marriage then I would say Ya Wadud (the most loving) Ya Wali (the protecting friend) please help me find a loving wife/husband or please grant me a righteous spouse or please enable me to marry the person I want to be with or please make my nikkah this year a success. So for anything you want in life, find a name of Allah swt that corresponds to what you are asking for, and then formulate your dua based on that.

2. Be in a state of Wudu & face the Qibla

To increase your chances of your dua to be accepted try to make dua with wudhu, facing the Qibla and times and places when they are accepted.

So for instance; Abu Umamah RA reported: The Messenger of Allah (sallallaahu ’alayhi wa sallam) was asked: “At what time does the supplication find the greatest response?” He (sallallaahu ’alayhi wa sallam) replied,“A supplication made during the middle of the last part of the night and after the conclusion of the obligatory prayers.” (Tirmidhi)

3. Make dua at key times

Other times where you can make dua are between the iqamah and the athaan, when it is raining, during the hours of tahajjud, when travelling, when fasting etc. These are the fundamental things to remember if you want your duas to be answered.

4. Pray during the nights of Power

The answer to that is Layla tul Qadr. Allah ﷻ swt (glorified and exalted be He) says in the Qur’an: The Night of Decree is better than a thousand months. The angels and the Spirit descend therein by permission of their Lord for every matter. Peace is until the emergence of dawn. [Qur’an: 97:3-5]

So can you imagine Laylat- ul Qadr is the equivalent of 83 years of worship, imagine making dua every single night of the last 10 nights of Ramadan? Surely your dua will be answered after all isn’t dua a form of worship? Allah is As-Sami’ meaning the all-hearing, so of course, Allah swt hears everything you say.

This year make it your mission, that you will make as much dua as you can, to fill your heart’s desire, every night of the last 10 nights this Ramadan and I am certain that your dua will be answered. After all, Allah swt never says no. It’s either yes, yes but later or yes I have a better plan for you. So believe in the power of dua because you have the power to transform your life, and have all the things you never could think of, simply by making dua to Allah.

5. Believe and know it will be answered

All you have to do now is believe in it and know that your dua is going to be answered. Allah is the most loving and the most merciful, and he never leaves us empty-handed. It makes my heart melt knowing how loving Allah swt is. If I could express to you how much dua has changed my life I would. But it would never be enough to show how merciful Allah is. May Allah accept all our duas. May He make all our dreams come true, and may He accept all our fasts and good deeds during this blessed month.

Love you all for the sake of Allah.
