MAAUN President Donates $100,000 to Islamic University in Uganda

In a remarkable gesture of generosity, Professor Adamu Abubakar Gwarzo, President of the MAAUN Group of Universities, has donated $100,000 (approximately N160 million) to the Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU).

Professor Gwarzo, who is the visionary founder of Maryam Abacha American University (Niger and Nigeria), Franco-British International University (Kaduna), and the Canadian University of Nigeria (Abuja), led a high-profile 17-member delegation to Uganda. He was invited as a special guest of honour at IUIU’s convocation ceremony, underscoring his deep commitment to educational development across Africa.

The announcement of the donation was confirmed in a statement issued on Monday by Alhaji Adnan Mukhtar, the Executive Assistant to Professor Gwarzo. The statement revealed that the donation was presented during the university’s 33rd convocation ceremony, held at its main campus in Mbale.

Recognizing Professor Gwarzo’s contribution, the university honoured him with an Award of Excellence. The award was presented by the Council Chairman, H.E. Prof. Dr. Muhammad A.S.E.A. Altabtabaei from the State of Kuwait. While delivering the commendation, Prof. Altabtabaei praised Professor Gwarzo’s unwavering support, stating: “Your dedication and contributions to the university have not gone unnoticed. On behalf of the council, we express our profound gratitude to you.”

In his response, Professor Gwarzo expressed heartfelt thanks for the recognition and reiterated his commitment to supporting education. He then announced the $100,000 donation to aid the university’s continued growth and development.

Reacting to the donation, IUIU Rector Prof. Dr. Ismail Simbwa Gyagenda conveyed deep appreciation on behalf of the university community. He described Professor Gwarzo as a true philanthropist who fulfills his promises. “This is a monumental donation,” Prof. Gyagenda remarked. “We are incredibly grateful, and we pray to Almighty Allah to bless Professor Gwarzo’s resources abundantly.”

Professor Gwarzo’s philanthropic contribution highlights his steadfast dedication to improving education across borders, cementing his legacy as a champion of knowledge and progress in Africa.
