Sayyida Khadija Mosque Opens in Sharjah’s Al-Waha Area, Showcasing Stunning Architecture

The majestic Sayyida Khadija Mosque, located in the Al-Waha area of the Al-Ruwaidat suburb along Al Dhaid Road, has officially opened its doors to worshippers.

The inauguration ceremony was led by His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, on Monday. His Highness unveiled a commemorative plaque to mark the occasion, celebrating the mosque’s unique architecture and significance.

Designed in the Fatimid architectural style infused with modern elements, the mosque spans a vast area of 49,383 square meters. It boasts capacity for 1,400 men in the main prayer hall, 1,325 worshippers in the outer portico, and 140 women in the designated women’s prayer area.

State-of-the-Art Facilities

The mosque is equipped with an extensive range of facilities, including a library, a mortuary building, ablution areas, water stations, restrooms, and parking for up to 592 vehicles. Additionally, residences have been built for the imam and muezzin.

Architecturally, the mosque features a central dome with a 10-meter diameter, complemented by two smaller domes measuring 4.5 meters each. Towering above are two minarets, each standing 40 meters high. The design incorporates energy-efficient and water-saving technologies, reflecting modern environmental standards.

Ceremony Highlights

Among those in attendance at the inauguration were Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Crown Prince and Deputy Ruler of Sharjah; Sheikh Salem bin Mohammed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Advisor at the Ruler’s Office; and Sheikh Abdullah bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Director of the General Authority for Islamic Affairs and Endowments in Sharjah. Other senior officials, government representatives, and dignitaries also joined the event.

During the ceremony, Sheikh Dr. Salem Al-Doubi, head of the Preaching and Fatwa Section at the Department of Islamic Affairs in Sharjah, delivered a sermon. He highlighted the profound spiritual and societal importance of mosques and lauded the Ruler of Sharjah’s commitment to enhancing places of worship and promoting serenity for the community.

Al-Ruwaidat Cemetery Tour

Following the mosque’s inauguration, Sheikh Dr. Sultan inspected the adjacent Al-Ruwaidat Cemetery. Spanning an area of 639,931 square meters, the cemetery includes paved roads, parking spaces, and integrated facilities seamlessly connected to the mosque.

The Ruler of Sharjah began the tour with a visit to the condolence hall, which features two separate halls capable of accommodating 60 individuals each. These halls are designed to provide support for bereaved families during burial and condolence gatherings.

Sheikh Dr. Sultan also reviewed the mortuary building, which adheres to high standards of respect for the deceased. The facility includes separate washing areas for men and women, equipped with advanced systems to ensure resource efficiency and smooth burial preparations. Waiting rooms for men and women are also available within the building.

The layout and facilities of the cemetery are meticulously planned to streamline burial procedures, offering ease and comfort to families and mourners.

This remarkable project, combining architectural beauty with practical functionality, underscores Sharjah’s dedication to fostering spiritual well-being and community support.
