T Raja Singh Says New Waqf Law Will Curb ‘Land Jihad’ Across India

Telangana BJP legislator T Raja Singh asserted on Sunday that the recently amended Waqf Act will put an end to what he described as “land jihad” across the country.

Addressing a large crowd during a Ram Navami procession, Singh claimed that certain individuals had been misusing the Waqf Board’s authority to wrongfully lay claim to public and private lands. He said that this practice has faced increasing challenges since the BJP-led government came to power.

“Earlier, people would declare any piece of land as Waqf property by simply putting up a board, as if it was their personal asset,” Singh stated. “Now, with the Waqf (Amendment) Bill passed under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, such actions will no longer be tolerated.”

He further alleged that at the time of India’s independence, the Waqf Board managed roughly 4,000 acres, but that this had ballooned to over 9.5 lakh acres without transparency. “Where did the extra land come from?” he questioned.

The Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2025 officially became law on Saturday after receiving the assent of President Droupadi Murmu, following detailed discussions in both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha.

Singh clarified that the law is not aimed at seizing Muslim property but rather to ensure fair land management. Referring to the Prime Minister’s slogan “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas” (Together with All, Development for All), he emphasized that the legislation would benefit everyone.

Calls Out Owaisi’s Opposition to the Bill

T Raja Singh also launched a scathing attack on All India Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul-Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief Asaduddin Owaisi, calling him the “biggest enemy of Muslims.” Singh criticised Owaisi for opposing the bill and taking the matter to the Supreme Court.

Owaisi’s legal challenge won’t change the ground reality,” Singh said, while claiming that the amendment serves the broader national interest, including protections for various religious endowments, not just Waqf properties.

Owaisi, in his Supreme Court plea, argued that the amendment erodes essential legal protections previously extended to Muslim, Hindu, Sikh, and Jain religious trusts.

Meanwhile, Singh reiterated a growing sentiment among a section of Hindus, asserting that there is widespread demand for India to be declared a “Hindu Rashtra.

The Ram Navami procession, which Singh led, began in the afternoon and lasted until late night, drawing large participation from across the city.

To maintain peace and prevent any untoward incidents, Hyderabad Police deployed around 20,000 personnel. Elaborate security measures were implemented across sensitive areas to ensure the event concluded smoothly.
