Blackburn’s Pleasington Golf Club Welcomes Muslim Golfers for Prestigious National Tournament

One of East Lancashire’s most renowned golfing destinations, Pleasington Golf Club, is set to welcome over 70 Muslim golfers from across the country this week as part of a nationally celebrated sporting event.

The club will host a leg of the Muslim Golf Association’s (MGA) Race to Makkah series—a unique competition that blends sport, community spirit, and faith. The ultimate prize? A coveted spot at the grand final to be held at the luxurious Royal Greens Golf and Country Club in King Abdullah Economic City, Saudi Arabia, located just 100 miles from the sacred city of Makkah.

This event marks a major milestone for Pleasington following the completion of its ambitious five-year Good2Great development programme, which has seen extensive course renovations and a renewed commitment to community inclusion. A key part of this transformation has been fostering closer ties with Blackburn’s Muslim community, making the club a beacon of diversity and accessibility in the sport.

Taking place on Friday, June 27, the tournament will feature a shotgun start at 2pm, sending all players off simultaneously across different holes. Competitors will navigate the club’s beautifully maintained fairways, lush heathland, and slick, challenging greens—all designed to test both skill and strategy.

In a powerful expression of faith and inclusivity, Friday (Jumu’ah) prayers will be held on-site, ensuring players can observe their religious obligations without stepping away from the event.

“This isn’t just about golf,” said Amir Malik, founder and CEO of the MGA. “It’s about building bridges through sport, showcasing cultural diversity, and bringing together people of all backgrounds in one of the most picturesque golf venues in the region.”

Entry is still open, and Muslim golfers are encouraged to participate. The £145 entry fee includes:

  • A round of golf

  • Warm-up balls at the driving range

  • A welcome breakfast sandwich with a hot drink

  • Dinner after the round

  • Eligibility for several exciting prizes

This event follows earlier Race to Makkah tournaments at Whittington Heath Golf Club in Lichfield and The Shire London in Barnet. Upcoming locations include the Forest of Arden near Birmingham, Brocket Hall in Welwyn Garden City, and a prestigious international stop at TPC Sawgrass in Florida this September.

Golfers wishing to register or learn more can visit the official Race to Makkah website.
