The federal government has announced plans to set up sugar stalls at the municipal level to provide essential relief to the public during the holy month of Ramadan. This initiative, aimed at stabilizing prices and ensuring availability, was confirmed in a statement by the Ministry of Industries and Production on Friday.
A high-level meeting of the Sugar Advisory Board, chaired by Federal Minister for Industries and Production Rana Tanveer Hussain, focused on strategies to regulate sugar prices and curb potential shortages during Ramadan. During the meeting, it was decided that sugar would be made available at designated stalls for a fixed price of Rs130 per kilogram, ensuring affordability for the general public.
Provincial chief secretaries have been directed to oversee the swift establishment of these sugar stalls in their respective regions. As per the decision, Sindh will have 230 stalls, while Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will set up 405 selling points. Additionally, hundreds of similar stalls will be arranged across Punjab and Balochistan to cater to the needs of residents.

“The initiative is designed to prevent hoarding, stabilize prices, and guarantee a steady sugar supply during Ramadan. Provincial authorities will be responsible for maintaining order, cleanliness, and security at these stalls to ensure a smooth purchasing experience for consumers,” the statement elaborated.
To address any operational challenges, a dedicated committee will be formed to resolve issues swiftly, ensuring the seamless execution of the initiative. The government has also emphasized strict monitoring of the project to maximize its effectiveness and deliver direct benefits to the masses.
Furthermore, the Pakistan Sugar Mills Association (PSMA) has been directed to collaborate with provincial administrations to ensure an uninterrupted supply chain. Special security measures will also be implemented in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to facilitate the safe transportation and distribution of sugar to these designated points.
This effort underscores the government’s commitment to public welfare, aiming to provide economic relief and curb inflationary pressures during the sacred month of Ramadan.
