Integrating Islamic and Western Education: A Solution to Societal Decadence – Scholar

Dr. Ibrahim Adelani, an esteemed Islamic scholar and Vice-Principal of Madrasah Da’wah Al-Islamiyah (Islamic Da’wah School) in Ibadan, has emphasized that combining Islamic and Western education is key to addressing the growing societal challenges.

Dr. Adelani made this assertion during an interaction with journalists at the 50th anniversary celebration of the Islamic Da’wah School held on Wednesday in Ibadan.

According to him, the moral decline observed in society stems largely from a lack of God-consciousness. He believes that blending Islamic education with Western learning equips individuals with both spiritual guidance and practical knowledge, fostering a balanced approach to life.

My message to parents is straightforward: enroll your children in programs that offer both Islamic and Western education. This combination has significant relevance and brings about positive transformation in society,” Adelani advised.

He further explained that the dual knowledge system serves as a moral compass for students, helping them grow into honest and principled individuals. “Islamic education instills virtues like honesty, truthfulness, and respect for others. It also discourages negative behaviors, paving the way for a morally upright generation,” he added.

A Legacy of Positive Impact

Reflecting on the history of the Islamic Da’wah School, Dr. Adelani revealed that the institution was founded in 1974 by his late father, Alhaji Bello Adelani, with just 74 students and four teachers. Over the years, the school has grown, producing graduates who have made meaningful contributions in various fields.

“I am proud to be a product of this institution, which continues to inspire and guide students. Serving as a role model for the current generation is one of the ways I give back,” he noted.

Dr. Adelani also highlighted that the school has remained committed to its mission of providing free Islamic education, charging only for books. However, he called on well-meaning Nigerians to provide financial support to sustain and expand the institution’s efforts.

Government and Community Support

Dr. Jamiu Soladoye, the Chairman of the Anniversary Planning Committee and an alumnus of the school (Class of 1988), also spoke at the event. He underscored the need for government support for private and religious schools, noting that they play a vital role in addressing moral decay in society.

“Lack of religious knowledge is a significant factor contributing to societal decadence. Schools like ours bridge this gap by shaping morally upright and responsible citizens,” Soladoye remarked.

He encouraged students to remain focused on their studies and not rush through life, emphasizing the importance of education in making meaningful contributions to the nation’s future.

As the Islamic Da’wah School marks its golden jubilee, it serves as a testament to the transformative power of education rooted in both spiritual and secular values, a model that can inspire positive change in society.
