Governor Makinde Presents Bus to Oyo Muslim Community

Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has commended the Muslim community for their unwavering support for his administration and their significant contributions to the progress of the state. The governor made these remarks on Tuesday during a courtesy visit by the Muslim Community of Oyo State, led by Alhaji Kunle Sanni, at the Executive Chamber of the Governor’s Office, Secretariat, Agodi, Ibadan.

In recognition of their efforts, Governor Makinde donated a bus to the Muslim community, emphasizing the importance of unity and urging them to reject any attempts to sow division within the state based on religion or politics.

The governor said, “Since 2019, I have received invaluable advice from our Muslim leaders on governance. I strive for inclusivity and quality in leadership. For instance, the Commissioner for Education, the SUBEB Chairman, and the Chairman of the Education Trust Fund are all Muslims. This demonstrates that I have no bias in my appointments.”

He continued, “Some critics claim that appointments are skewed, but I prioritize competence while ensuring balance. For example, the Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning is a Muslim. This office plays a crucial role in managing state finances and ensuring that projects align with our budget. We have nothing to hide.”

Makinde called on leaders and residents to resist any efforts to exploit religious or political differences, warning that such divisions benefit only a few. “This is our state. Leaders will come and go, but the legacy we leave behind will shape the future. Let’s resist those who profit from discord,” he said.

Addressing concerns about Sharia Court discussions, the governor reaffirmed his commitment to upholding the law. “Oyo State operates under the constitution, which I swore to uphold. If any actions align with the law, that’s fine. But anything outside the law will not be tolerated,” Makinde asserted.

On the recent stampede at Islamic High School in Ibadan, which claimed the lives of several students, Makinde expressed his deep sorrow and pledged to ensure justice. “The tragedy was preventable, and the loss of young lives is heartbreaking. These children could have been future leaders. Justice will be served to prevent such incidents from happening again,” he said.

Makinde also addressed public skepticism regarding his impartiality. “Some believe my relationship with certain individuals might affect justice. Let me assure you, as governor, I stand firm on justice and fairness, regardless of personal connections,” he concluded.
