Authorities have charged a 31-year-old woman from Pascoe Vale in relation to the alleged assaults on two Muslim women at Pacific Epping shopping centre in Melbourne’s northern suburbs last Thursday.
According to police reports, the suspect initially targeted a 30-year-old pregnant woman, allegedly attacking her while she was having lunch with her four-year-old child. Witnesses claim the victim was grabbed from behind and had her hijab pulled tightly around her neck, causing distress and fear.
Just ten minutes later, another woman, aged 26, was allegedly punched, slapped, and shoved to the ground, sustaining bruises and scratches.

Investigators believe the attacks were motivated by the victims’ religious attire. The evidence suggests the victims were targeted due to their head coverings,” a police spokesperson stated.
The accused faces multiple charges, including intentionally and recklessly causing injury, unlawful assault, and aggravated assault. She is set to appear before Heidelberg Magistrates’ Court today.

Police have also launched an inquiry into alleged online threats made against one of the victims following the incident.
Discrimination, racism, and hate-fueled actions have no place in our society. Such behavior will not be tolerated,” the spokesperson emphasized.
In the wake of the attacks, Muslim community leaders have urged the government and law enforcement agencies to take stronger measures against Islamophobia and ensure the safety of all citizens, regardless of their faith or background.
