Saudi Arabia has officially launched the registration process for individuals interested in volunteering at Islam’s two holiest mosques during the upcoming month of Ramadan.
Volunteers can apply to assist worshippers at both the Grand Mosque in Mecca and the Prophet’s Mosque in Medina. Both male and female volunteers are encouraged to sign up, with coordination handled between the Presidency of Religious Affairs for the Two Holy Mosques and the Ministry of Human Resources.
Sheikh Abdulrahman Al Sudais, Head of the Presidency of Religious Affairs, emphasized that the agency has created comprehensive programs to organize volunteer efforts during the holy month of Ramadan, which is anticipated to begin on Saturday. These initiatives aim to engage volunteers in providing essential services to those worshipping at the sacred sites.
“The initiation of volunteering at the Two Holy Mosques reflects the esteemed value of volunteerism in Islam,” Sheikh Al Sudais stated.
To streamline the process, the Presidency has developed a dedicated database, making it easier to match volunteer opportunities with available roles. Volunteers can apply via an online platform, which includes positions in areas such as guidance, religious affairs, media, technical services, crowd management, and translation.

During Ramadan, the Grand Mosque experiences a significant increase in the number of worshippers participating in Umrah, the minor pilgrimage. Saudi authorities have already ramped up preparations to accommodate this expected surge. The ongoing Umrah season, which began in late June after the conclusion of the annual Hajj pilgrimage, will continue throughout the year.
In addition to the Grand Mosque, many pilgrims also travel to Medina to visit the Prophet’s Mosque and other key Islamic landmarks.
