The Muslim community of Somolu Local Government Area in Lagos State has publicly distanced itself from a viral letter discrediting the All Progressives Congress (APC) chairmanship candidate based on his Christian faith. The letter, which recently spread across social media platforms, raised concerns about potential religious conflicts in the diverse Lagos suburb.
In an emergency gathering at the Somolu Central Mosque, prominent Muslim leaders clarified their collective stance, emphasizing that the controversial letter does not represent the views of the Muslim populace in the area. “We are not here to fight anyone. We stand for peace and progress,” the leaders stated, firmly endorsing the APC’s chosen candidate, irrespective of religious affiliation.
Rejecting any attempt to inject religion into local politics, the leaders highlighted that leadership should be assessed based on merit, performance, and dedication to public service, not religious identity. “Unfortunately, certain individuals exploit religion during election seasons to create unnecessary divisions,” remarked a respected elder. “But they do not speak for us.”

The community further commended Christian figures within Somolu who have actively contributed to societal development through initiatives like mosque refurbishments, scholarship programs for students, and healthcare support for the underprivileged. “We evaluate people by their deeds, not just their beliefs,” an elder explained. “Somolu thrives on unity, and we refuse to let anyone jeopardize that harmony.”
Sending a clear message to politicians and stakeholders, the Muslim community urged a shift in focus toward tangible development, youth empowerment, and social welfare initiatives. “Somolu Muslims will always support candidates and policies that foster growth and inclusivity,” the leaders reiterated. “Peace remains our guiding principle.”
By standing against divisive narratives and reaffirming their commitment to communal harmony, the Somolu Muslim community has set a powerful example of religious tolerance and political maturity.
